Always knew I wasn't a Catholic. Slightly disturbed that my first four results tally exactly with Simon's. I didn't think very hard when doing though.

Probably a good idea not to think very hard - that way you get your "heart's response"...

Posted by: Tracey on November 24, 2004 03:13 PM

So I'm a Christian at heart? Err, no.

Posted by: Simon Brunning on November 24, 2004 03:45 PM

Ah - but you are more of a Unitarian Universalist, or Secular Humanist. If anything this just confirms what I already thought - that 'mainline to liberal Christian Protestants' aren't really 'Christians' in the sense that many people understand the word. Or at least, the stuff that we or they consider important is the 'real life' stuff, rather than the dogmatic, ideological stuff.

Now to go find out what 'Neo-Pagan' means...

Posted by: Katherine on November 24, 2004 04:46 PM

1. Theravada Buddhism (100%)
2. Liberal Quakers (97%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (94%)
4. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (90%)
5. Mahayana Buddhism (88%)
6. Neo-Pagan (86%)
7. Jainism (80%)
8. Taoism (80%)
9. New Age (78%)
10. Secular Humanism (77%)
11. Orthodox Quaker (70%)
12. Bahá'í Faith (70%)
13. Reform Judaism (64%)
14. Sikhism (62%)
15. Hinduism (59%)
16. Christian Science (Church of Christ,
Scientist) (56%)
17. New Thought (53%)
18. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (52%)
19. Scientology (49%)
20. Nontheist (48%)
21. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (45%)
22. Seventh Day Adventist (40%)
23. Jehovah's Witness (39%)
24. Orthodox Judaism (39%)
25. Islam (29%)
26. Eastern Orthodox (18%)
27. Roman Catholic (18%)

Oh, good, I'm in the right job. 2, 3 and 4 are in the because Pureland Buddhism, which most Eastern Buddhists practice, though not well known in the U.K.,is for ordinary householders rather than for monastics. It emphasises that we are all foolish beings, rather than striving for perfection through our own efforts.

I agree with you, Katherine. Ditto Buddhists, at least of my brand. We are very 'engaged', ie getting on with real stuff rather than the fad of some Buddhists in the West who want to sit in meditation and try to think of and make life blissful and lovely - that's not what the Buddha was about at all.
