I'll be at Jez's London Java meetup this evening. I've not been to one for ages - not since September - so I'm really looking forward to it.
Provided, that is, that they won't talk about bloody Groovy all night. I've still yet to be convinced that Groovy has anything that Jython didn't have nearly ten years ago. Apart from closures and inelegant syntax, that is. ;-)
A new venue this time - it's at The Crown Tavern, EC1R 0EG.
Update: Seems Jython was around exactly ten years ago.
Well, I'll be there and I don't want to talk about Groovy particularly.
You can tell me about your exciting new job instead.
Will do. Not that I know what I'll be doing, or where... ;-)
Posted by: Simon on February 27, 2007 12:41 PMIt is a shame that Jython languished so much. Sun might have funded it instead of JRuby. I have not so much as heard a squeak about Jython when JRuby or Groovy is mentioned in a post.
Posted by: Robert on February 27, 2007 02:34 PMJython's seeming lack of progress is a real shame, as you say. Perhaps if the project had looked more alive, Jython would have had a higher profile. The recent beta release is a good thing, but it'll take a few releases to convince people that Jython is making real progress.
But I've been using Jython for ages. It might nat have been kept up to date with CPython, but the older version works just fine.
Posted by: Simon on February 27, 2007 02:39 PMI'm sorry I won't be there tonight to share a celebratory drink with you Simon (no, what am I saying - I'm very glad. Jython? WTF? That sounds like a dance that ought to be banned.)
But congratulations on the job nonetheless.
