Right. I'm off to Haslemere to meet Steve to drink beer. Then, tomorrow is the long planned Nerd Day, during which I'll be showing Steve how to build a web application in Java. Mark will be coming down for it too; I gather that he's a bit sick of VB now.
I'm a rubbish trainer, so wish me (and them) luck. No need to worry about this evening, though; I'm good at drinking beer.
Posted to Java by Simon Brunning at September 22, 2005 04:38 PMHe's so sick of VB that he was willing to get up at 6am this morning to get on the train out to Haslmere. *groan and double groan*
Posted by: Katherine on September 23, 2005 10:14 AMHang on, it's a Friday. Shouldn't you people be working for a living instead of poncing around the Surrey countryside?
Posted by: Andy Todd on September 23, 2005 01:01 PMWell, it was indeed a punishing time to get up.
And it was well worth it - we went right through the basics from installing Java, Ant, Eclipse, Tomcat and ProgreSQL, to having them all playing happily together.
Steve was a lovely host and Simon did us very proud as coordinator and advisor and trainer, and I came away having had such a good day that we them covered a bit of Spring and Hibernate on the laptops on the train on the way home.
Of course there was a hearty pub lunch, but then as Geeks on a Nerd Day on a Friday we could hardly miss out on part of the stereotype now could we?
I look forward to some more!
Posted by: Mark Matthews on September 26, 2005 10:02 AMAndy - this is the scary nerd part - they took the day off as holiday to mess around with Java.
Posted by: Katherine on September 26, 2005 10:13 AMAgreed, a great day was had. Simon is NOT a rubbish trainer - I came away with a working understanding of "the dark art" of building a web application.
Posted by: Steve on September 26, 2005 12:13 PMHello, I feel I can see the matter through your eyes as I look at it the same way & I felt obligated to thank you for your precious time and research. On a side note I think you will like this other website I stumbled upon right before I found this one. There is lots of detailed views just like this one. They have all of the best builders for if you are thinking of building a custom estate in Perth, WA. I was hoping to spread the word a little
