Went to see that yesterday with a gang - totally brilliant. Great humour. Bit slow in the middle third but catches up again very nicely. Definite must-see in my books.

Well, Michael and I enjoyed it more than the girls did. It's really an adult's film, I think.

A few themes pulled from The Watchmen[1], I thought; retired super-heroes, the super villain using a fake threat to the world, and that whole cape thing. Any more that I missed?

Whilst I realise it's much cooler to reference the Watchmen, it would be criminal to deny James Bond (early Sean Connery and in a necessarily ironic manner naturally), but it's classy enough to make it its own. Sadly much of it lost on young girls.

Oh yes, the Bond references were there all right. I felt, though, that the Watchmen stuff wasn't so much referred to as plagiarised.

Let's not forget the numerous Star Wars 'homages'. According to Mark, the whole bit with the spinning disk thingies chasing the little boy is right out of those Ewok woods.
