Hmmm. Just about every other blogger on the face of the planet has linked, or will link, to this: Mom finds out about blog.
You know the sad thing - my mother does read this blog, and there's nothing in it that I would want to keep from her. In fact, I can't think of anything in my life that I can't tell my mother.
Sigh. I have to get a life. Can you get one from Argos?
BTW, Mum, when are you starting your blog?
Posted to Blogs by Simon Brunning at November 13, 2003 03:40 PMWhat I can't understand is, where was Widmar's Mum in the 60s? Does he know? Maybe she wouldn't be so horrified after all. Maybe he'd be more horrified if he read her blog.
Yes, yes, I'll get something on mine in the next few days. Nagged by my parents, nagged by my kids.
Love
Mum
This *really* *is* from my Mum, in case anyone is wondering...
Posted by: Simon Brunning on November 13, 2003 04:18 PMOooh, life imitating the Onion. How very 21st century.
My mum, on the other hand, gets my Dad to print out my web page for her to read.
This is the major reason I changed the background colour from blue to white at the beginning of the year.
Of course she then phones me up and asks why some of the words are in a different colour (or underlined). I haven't the patience to start explaining hyperlinks to her, can you just imagine the conversation?
Posted by: Andy Todd on November 13, 2003 05:32 PMMy Dad's the same - my stepmother prints out his emails for him, he writes the replies out longhand, and she does the rest for him.
Once, five or more years ago, he was writing one of his books and we decided that he would use a word processor to write them. I set Windows (3.1!) and DOS up so that the PC would boot straight into Windows, and Word would start up automatically. He sat at the keyboard, pecked out the first word, then asked "how do I get the little gaps between the words?"
That's what I call starting from the very beginning. In the end, he wrote the book out longhand, and I and various other people typed the text out for him. To this day, this is how he works.
Mum, OTOH, is *very* keen on having a go:

And her blog is on the horizon...
