(Nerds; this is about single people, not about real Singletons.)
Bloody hell, as if it isn't hard enough, Zoe Williams over at the Graudiad is claiming that single people are selfish, and need to be given a hard time.
Fuck off, Zoe. I get given ehough of a a hard time about it already, thank you.

Posted by: Alan Green on August 15, 2005 04:38 AMWhat a stupid article! A load of self-justifying rubbish...
Posted by: Tracey on August 15, 2005 08:32 AMHm... having read the whole article, I can't personally see where it accuses single people of being selfish, in a blameworthy 'you're a bad person' kind of way. It's discussing the rise of the single person as a social unit whilst at the same time acknowledging that we still have a deeply ambivalent attitude to whether being single is acceptable or desirable or whatever. Not discussing it terribly well, I don't think, but if you've ever read any of her other columns, you won't be surprised by that. She does have a tendency to come to over-generalising and pointlessly sound-bitey conclusions. The title says 'Singletons are selfish', but that was probably the work of a headline hungry sub-editor. Just some thoughts.
Posted by: Katherine on August 15, 2005 11:24 AMThe assumption thoughout the article is that being single is typically a matter of choice, though, which I don't think is true.
Posted by: Simon Brunning on August 15, 2005 12:58 PMSimon - yup, I agree. And that's why she is a cr*p columnist. She takes an issue, decides what she wants to say and then ignores all other possibilities and circumstances.
Posted by: Katherine on August 15, 2005 03:57 PMSimon, you keep mentioning it - when ya gonna do something about it dude? Steve gave you the link before - udate.com - I'd give it try if I were you. It does exactly what it says on the tin.
Posted by: Swiss Toni on August 15, 2005 04:37 PMYes Simon - i agree with Swiss Toni - get yourself out there and stop whining, you selfish singleton :-)
Posted by: tulna (not Margo) on August 17, 2005 02:20 PMActually, if I were to sign up to one of these, it would be OK Cupid[1]. I hear the matching system is quite interesting mathematically speaking.

Sexual harrasment in the workplace, that's what I call it.
