Crash Upgrade

Those spamming bastards were at it again - there were over a thousand vile spams on SVoC this morning. What was more, new ones were being added as fast as I could clear them out.

So, I disabled commenting altogether, backed everything up, and upgraded to MT 2.661 and installed MT-Blacklist.

All is not rosy. Comments seem to be given 500s rather a lot. This happened occasionally before, but it's even more frequent now. I'll have to take this up with my hosts, 1&1.

Test comment. Does this show up? Will I get a 500? Do I care just right now?

That's a yes, yes and no, respectivly. I'll have to talk to 1&1...

See, it wasn't that hard was it. Lucky for you that you weren't too busy at work today ;-)

do I get a 500?

I could host you, if you want. We've got Python 2.2 and a tonne of modules, and can accomodate MT (heathen!). It's my server (um, my companies server).

I don't.

Thanks, Arron. I might just take you up on that.

I'm having no joy working out where all the 500s are coming from. It's certainly worse than it was before the upgrade - it's dying before rebuilding the entry now, so although the comments make it to the database, they don't make it to the HTML. Sigh.

I can't find any logs anywhere to tell me what's going on, either.

I'm still getting 500s, and it's much worse than it was before I upgraded. It's not just showing the 500s not, it's also failing to rebuild the HTML (though the comments are saved to the database).

This seems to be a problem as 1and1's end, since I find other people reporting the same problem[1]. So, it looks like time for a new host.
