Is there a Knoppix-like live CD available which auto-starts Tomcat? (Preferably one which is fairly easily customised by the dim-witted, such as myself.)
Posted to Java by Simon Brunning at February 16, 2004 11:07 AMErm, I know how to setup Linux to autostart applications if thats any help - I guess it isn't though!

Bear in mind that Knoppix is based on Debian. In the Debian world Java is not free software and is therefore frowned upon.
See http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-java-faq/
I'm not saying that you can't run Tomcat on Debian, but it will be harder than 'apt-get install tomcat'

One other complication would be that you'd usually want some disc access for customised config files and persistance.

But, if you're running out of a Live CD, your / is a RAM disk. Where do you want to store logs?
Posted by: migs on February 16, 2004 03:33 PMInstalling the .bin from Sun is a breeze on Debian. Zero problems. That Debian frowns on stuff does not mean you can't have it :)
