A rose by any other other name...

... would smell as sweet.

Eclipse may take new name after reorganization, basically because the name pisses Sun off, and so they don't want to join the Eclipse consortium unless it's changed.

Thing is, while I have no reason to object to Sun joining the Eclipse team, I'm not sure what the advantage is, either. So why should Eclipse bend over backwards for Sun, and loose the recognition factor which Eclipse has earned over the last couple of years?

I guess "Shadow" should keep Sun happy! Seriously, IMO, Sun is a bigger threat to Java than .Net. They need to learn to let go of Java in favour of community processes for it (and them) to remain competitive.

"Umbra", perhaps?

Anyway, yes, I agree, Sun is holding Java back. I heard a rumour the other day that Sun might sell Java to IBM. Probably not remotely true, but interesting. It would be *great* if it *were* true, though.

If they'd have heard us 25 years ago, talking about IBM as the good guys, they'd have thought we were *mad*! Who knows, perhaps in 2030 *Microsoft* will be the good guys. Nah...
