24

A while back, I bought 24 series 1 on DVD. I've just finished watching it.

Despite the rave reviews, I never watched in on TV. It was as much a lifestyle choice as a TV series, and I just didn't feel ready to make the commitment.

I kept quiet about watching it, too, 'cos I just knew that some smart arse would drop hints and spoil if for me if I let it out. Or is that just 24's paranoia getting to me?

Anyway. Fab series. Restores ones faith in the possibility of decent television.

Series 2 any good?

Series 2 was good but not AS good (although still far and away one of the better TV series). But only because you've seen series 1.. if that makes sense.

It was good though, better opening episode too! And still plenty 'looks' and twists and turns, including the one where... ohh no I won't...

Who cares, they cancelled Firefly! The cheek of it.

The only thing I know about 24 is that the bloke who used to play Jim Robinson in Neighbours is the Vice President in series 2 and that one of the actresses is a distant cousin to a bloke I used to work with in Sydney. As is Mutt Lange, who is married to Shania Twain, which leads us right back to Stevan.

Firefly? Never heard of it. Looks like you have out-nerded me there, Andy. Looks kind of sub-Trek to me - what's special about it?

Where do I start. Written by Joss Whedon, the man responsible for Buffy and Angel, its a sci-fi western series set in, well somewhere.

Well written, well acted and so darn clever it makes Star Trek look quite ordinary. The cancellation of this finest of shows is the TV tragedy of the decade. If you want to watch it in the UK you need satellite or cable, its currently showing on the Sci-Fi channel on Monday nights.

Ah, but I can't *stand* Buffy. Neighbours with fangs. Angel is worse. So, Firefly isn't looking too promising.

Certainly not promising enough to shell out for satellite or cable for.

Your loss mate.

Don't forget that Mr Whedon also had a hand in Toy Story, Alien: Resurrection and Titan A.E (which is allegedly quite good, even though it tanked at the box office).

I can categorically state that there are no fangs anywhere in Firefly.

Hmmm. Well, Toy Story was excellent. But Alien: Resurrection *minged*.
