The arse end of nowhere

I'm in Amsterdam again. Unfortunately, Amsterdam's hotels were incredibly busy, and the hotels near my client were all fully booked. So, I've ended up on the wrong side of the airport, here. Sigh.

Naturally, it sounds OK according to the website, but it's their website, so it would. In fact, the hotel is stuck in the middle of a huge office complex - I've got a 30 foot Microsoft logo opposite my window, for Christ's sake!

There is nothing at all within walking distance, so I'll probably just end up in the hotel bar, drinking weak lager at £4 the 3/4 pint. Glamorous, this traveling business, no?

At £4 per 3/4 litre consider yourself lucky. In my neighbourhood (Oslo, Norway) the beer is a cool £5 pr 1/2 litre. Of course Norwegian salaries are among the highest in Europe, but nevertheless :-(

I ended up buying a six pack at the airport, and dumping them in the sink with a couple of buckets of ice.

Then I watched a DVD on my notebook, and drank the beer.

It's much better to buy yourself a DVD at the airport than to resort to the hotel's pay-TV. €12.50 buys you a film that you don't *really* want to watch, and that you miss the first 1/2 hour of, or for which you have to wait 1/2 an hour. It *also* buys you a serious mickey taking back at the office, who'll assume that you were watching the hard-core porn. OTOH, you can get 2 DVDs for about £18 at the airport, you can choose what you like, and you get to keep them. Bleedin' obvious, really.

I didn't know that they had started selling porn at Heathrow. Which shop did you get it in?

You're obviously living on the west side of Oslo then, Drunkard.

Wow - so many readers from Oslo. Who'd have guessed? I might be working on Oslo in a couple of months or so, so we'll have to meet up for an (expensive) beer or two.

Couple of months? Expensive beer? It'd have to be Aker Brygge, then.

Do they still sell Mack Ol in Norway? Or is that only in the far frozen North?

Mack is available in the supermarket. I suppose it's also on tap in various pubs, but I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.
