85 of 101 Reasons, Rebutted

Ted Neward's 85 of 101 Reasons, Rebutted is a very thorough and non-partisan response to Carlos Perez's 101 Reasons Java is better than Dot-Net.

As I think I've said before, I'd like Java to stay better than .NET, but it's only going to do so by recognising where .NET has advantages, and stealing them. If Java can also steal good ideas from other arenas, then so much the better.

Eh, and in which way does Carlos list imply that .Net has no advantage over Java? He is just listing the areas where Java has an advantage over .Net. It is up to the .Net fans to make the opposite list, and then we can read both and make up our own minds, right?!

Did you read them both?

There is certainly a place for a '101 Reasons Dot-Net is better than Java' list somewhere, but that isn't what Ted's post is about. Instead, Ted is pointing out some flaws in some of Carlos points. Accurately and without noticeable bias, I thought. (Not all, you'll notice. Just the ones that Ted thinks are inacurate. Or duplicates - quite a lot of these.)

The point that *I* was clumsily trying to make is that we must try to honestly and dispassionately judge the two platforms if we are to steal the good stuff from elsewhere.

Carlos' list strikes me as a little self defensive. It might convince the *Javaheads* that Java is the best platform, but no one else. A shorter, more credible list would convince more people.
